Our original structure of responsibility for altar flowers consisted of one member being responsible for one month of the year, excluding Christmas and Lent and Easter. Over the years, as in many other aspects of church volunteerism, we are down to very few individuals picking up a lot of slack. In addition, there are fewer folks contributing memorial funds. It has been the tradition of the Episcopal Church to offer living flowers to the Glory of God and we have successfully avoided artificial flowers so far. But with the scarcity of people to arrange flowers, the cost and diminished contributions, we will need to revisit altar flower arrangements in the future.
